Oh, I’m sorry I left out neuroscience, spiritual causality and holistic process. Unless one has spent a considerable time studying the works of scientist/theologian Emanuel Swedenborg, the account of Jacob’s “ladder” in Genesis comes across as a fanciful dream rather than a scientific model for expressing causality and the layered structure of reality.
In other words, God’s Holy Word, when appropriately understood, is a sacred document that unifies science and theology. This insight will represent the next great upheaval to humankind’s worldview.
The story of Jacob’s trancendental ladder, in which Jacob has a vision of angels descending from God in heaven to earth and ascending back to God from earth represents a real ontological schematic of Divine order and process in the universe. First of all, this cosmic patterning principle displays how God unifies all creation from a reciprocating and totally integrated process.
The downward process toward inert matter is called involution. The upward process back to God is called evolution. Each step or “rung” in the process displays the discontinuous nature of action in the universe – a concept that is promoted by modern quantum theory.
The multi-leveled scheme of angels taking distinct or discrete steps (causal links) to get from one level of ontological reality to another is more impressive than modern string theory, because it includes metaphysical principles that originate in a pre-geometric realm (called the spiritual world). Some well-respected physicists are actually taking on the challenge of finding the origins of the laws and forces that govern the universe in a non-local, non-physical, pre-geometric construct. (This would give us a pre-geometric understanding of the special initial conditions of the prenatal universe before the “Big Bang.”)
Since divine perfection requires divine consistency this same patterning principle that gives form to the discrete geometries of multi-leveled space is also incorporated into the various substrates of brain and neuron structure. Once again, modern science has to catch up to the discoveries of Emanuel Swedenborg in its attempt to flush out a comprehensive, multi-leveled model of the human cognitive architecture.
Swedenborg has shown the way to finding the causal nexus between the Infinite and the finite (God and creation), and that the layered structures of the human brain including those within the neuron itself are modeled after the scaffolding of spacetime and the various laws and forces which operate in, and form the parameters of, these distinct “space-structures.”
This intelligent patterning scheme is intrinsic to space, time, complexity and the Holy Word. That is, all order, series and orientation are expressed in all things of God’s Word—its general, particular and smallest details!
I know I have said a mouthful. Don’t worry. I won’t leave you hanging. I address all these issues in my upcoming book, Proving God (which is now at the printer).

Thank you for your interest. Scripture would not be God’s Holy Word unless it could contain Infinite Wisdom. This endless wisdom is hidden within deeper levels of meaning within the literal interpretation of its words. Emanuel Swedenborg has given us the key to unlocking these deeper meanings – called the “Science of Correspondences.”
With this key we can discover how God’s Wisdom and scientific truth are one and the same thing. The descent of the Holy City, the New Jerusalem, represents a paradigm change in BOTH theological and scientific thinking. This new knowledge will allow humankind to help usher in God’s kingdom of LOVE on earth!
