A woman’s greatest beauty secret – a wise man!

Women wish to be beautiful. According to scientist/theologian Emanuel Swedenborg this wish comes from a deeper spiritual reality within women for expressing their desire to love and be loved.

Where did Swedenborg find this out? From heaven, while conversing with male and female angels! These unique and other-worldly conversations are recorded in his wonderful book about marriages in heaven called Conjugial Love. (Swedenborg was asked by angels to add the “i” to the word “conjugal” because the extra vowel lent more heavenly affection to the term.) Of particular interest, he learned many new insights about women from listening to female angels conversing on the topic of the deepest relationships between the two sexes.

The female angels stated that their husbands loved them from the principle of spiritual wisdom and that they eagerly sought and loved this wisdom and intelligence from their husbands. They stated that their heavenly role was to unite the proper love with the particular wisdom of their husbands (which made the angelic wives beautiful). This reciprocal unity between love and wisdom represents the essence of heavenly marriage in its angelic fullness.

To illustrate the spiritual dynamic behind a woman’s true beauty, Swedenborg was allowed to visit and interview an angelic couple that had been married for thousands of years and lived in the highest (or third) heaven. The celestial husband revealed his wisdom to Swedenborg from their conversation. The husband’s handsomeness was a reflection of his angelic wisdom. But Swedenborg was able to witness a startling occurrence from the wife. As she turned her head towards her husband, her beauty increased to the point that Swedenborg was no longer able to discern her features. Her beauty had actually transcended the ability of Swedenborg’s intellect to grasp such a heavenly form!

Spiritually speaking, the act of turning her head towards her husband represented an increase in affection and love towards her husband’s wisdom. The act of aligning her heart more intimately with her husband’s intelligence made her instantly more beautiful.

Women are always saying that they want to find their “prince.” Angels understand the term “prince” to symbolize spiritual truth and understanding. A man is not a prince unless he has acquired spiritual wisdom. But modern women have been thrown a curve ball. Most men today are finding less value in becoming spiritually wise and preferring instead to being clever, cunning and domineering as a result of worldly self-love.

Swedenborg was told that if a man or male spirit is motivated by self-love, his intelligence becomes insanity. A woman was designed by God to love a man’s intelligence so that her resulting inner beauty and loving attention would inspire and protect the man from descending into self-centeredness.

The evidence that something has gone afoul from God’s cosmic plan for heavenly harmony is that today’s women seem to be expressing more and more grievances concerning their issues and disappointments with men. If men refuse to become genuinely spiritual, women will never be properly valued or recognized—no matter what women accomplish on this earth or how physically (outwardly) beautiful they make themselves. (The most physically beautiful women on earth, even those who have made great sacrifices, all have had problems with men—which are all proofs of a diminished spirituality and shallowness in males.)

“Who needs men?” is a question more and more women are asking themselves. That question quickly disappears when men seek to become spiritually wise. Genuine male wisdom recognizes the true beauty and value of a woman’s love.

So unfortunately, a woman cannot experience the full depth of her beauty and love without a man of wisdom in her life.

The growing movement towards secularism is no friend to women, either.
