The Sweetest Ice Cream Cone In The World

Once upon a time there lived a young boy named Jimmy. On this particular and beautiful spring day Jimmy was feeling extra happy. He decided that he could make this happy day even more special by treating himself to an ice cream cone.

Not just any ice cone but the sweetest ice cream cone in the whole world.

Jimmy went over to his piggy bank where he had been saving his weekly allowance and shook out enough money to pay for such an extraordinary treat. Then he headed for the neighborhood ice cream store, which was just down the street from his house.

With a pocketful of jingling change, he walked into the store and with great pride announced to the server behind the counter that he wanted the sweetest ice cream cone in the whole wide world.

The clerk looked at the boy first with surprise, then with a smile he asked, “Gee, I do not know how to make the sweetest ice cream cone in the world. But if you could tell me how, I think I could indeed make it for you.”

Jimmy thought about it for a while, then exclaimed with excitement, “I want three scoops of ice cream – vanilla, chocolate, and pistachio.” The he thought about it some more and added, “I also want caramel and chocolate syrup on top – with sprinkles.”

The server looked at the boy and wondered how he could fit such a big treat into his little belly. Then he turned to the chore at hand and began to build the ice cream cone exactly the way Jimmy had described it to him.

“Here you are,” said the server. “If this is not the sweetest ice cream cone in the whole world, I would not know what is.”

Jimmy’s eyes grew large as he was handed the super delicious treat. He then left the store and began to slowly savor his special ice cream cone as he carefully licked it along the sides.

As he headed home licking his cone, he noticed out of the corner of his eye another boy, about the same age, staring at him. Jimmy had never seen him before and guessed that he and his family had recently moved into the house that was for sale on the street.

Jimmy was so intent on enjoying his super ice cream cone that he pretended not to notice the other boy. He just continued walking towards home, licking his cool delicious treat. However, with each step he took past the other boy, his ice cream cone began to lose some of its flavor and sweetness,

By the time Jimmy reached home his special ice cream cone was no longer enjoyable. This was a total mystery to him.

That night as Jimmy lie in bed, he wondered whether he had made a poor choice of ice cream flavors. Perhaps a different flavor combination would have made the ice cream cone better better, or different toppings.

Tired of thinking about what went wrong with his ice cream cone, he fell asleep.

Several hours later, a beautiful glowing angel appeared in the room. She walked over to where Jimmy was sleeping and whispered something in his ear.

The next morning Jimmy awoke with a big smile on his face. He walked over to his piggy bank and shook out some more money.

That afternoon he once again walked into the ice cream store and told the server behind the counter that he now knew how to make an ice cream cone that was even sweeter and more flavorful than yesterday’s cone.

“How can you beat yesterday’s cone?” said the clerk with raised eyebrows.

“Make me TWO of those same cones,” was Jimmy’s quick answer.

The server just scratched his head and this time began to build two triple-decker ice cream cones the same way he did the day before. Jimmy paid for the two super cones, left the store, and confidently walked down the street.

And once again he came upon the same lonely boy. Jimmy approached the new boy in town and said, “Here, this ice cream cone is for you. Let’s be friends.”

As Jimmy watched the totally surprised and very happy boy begin to enjoy his treat, something miraculous happened. With each bite Jimmy’s own ice cream cone became sweeter and sweeter, until it tasted the way he imagined that it would.

That is when he realized the sweetest ice cream cone in the world is the one you share.
