Would an angel give you the time of day?

Absolutely not!

While this behavior may seem to run counter to our idea of angelic behavior, such a refusal cannot be blamed on any lack of their being loving or charitable.

There simply is no time in heaven. Angels (who were all actually humans once living on earth), do not even know what time is.

The spiritual world consists only of spiritual things. So everything relating to time, space and matter no longer applies. Heaven does not contain a physical sun or moon, whose periodic motions in the physical universe allow us to distinguish moments and times. So angels do not know what years are, or months, or days.

Since human perception and mental ideas are tied to time and spatial measurement, what do angels experience in the absence of these things? What good would eyes be without the light of a physical sun?

In heaven all the spiritual organs of perception deal with receptivity to God’s Love and Truth. This divine influence is perceived as a Spiritual Sun, which radiates spiritual light (truth) and spiritual heat (love).

Spiritual organs of perception are formed during one’s life on earth according to our receptivity to God, which organizes the substances of our spirit into the form of a subtle body. In this way religion not only teaches important life-values but also provides a precise strategy by which human evolution can continue to develop bio-structure for eternal life in a non-physical realm.

This is a realm of the human heart and mind. This world is more fundamental and “real” than the physical universe.

Angelic perception in heaven is according to the quality of their mental states and changes between those states. The passage of time in heaven is represented by the changing states of their understanding. Space and distance is represented according to affinities of the heart.

So, what kind of phenomenon does this create in the other world?

When one grows mentally tired, darkness enters their world. When one is in some obscurity concerning God’s teaching a cloud appears and blocks divine light from giving its full effect. Those who turn away from God and a proper spiritual life move themselves further from the Spiritual Sun and always keep their backs towards its influence. When a storm hits somewhere in the Spiritual World (mainly hell) it is the result of anger and a dispersal of truth.

Humans on earth, because they are spirits clothed in a material body, can actually sense this spiritual quality of measurement. When we feel close to people, this closeness of spirit is unaffected by physical distances. We can also feel far apart from people who live next door (if their worldviews and values vastly differ from ours).

So the decisions we make in life have an organic consequence. They form the organs and bio-functions of our spirit!

(This is where the Neo-Darwinian synthesis of evolution falls apart.)
