The Holy Word and Top-Down Causality

Most of today’s theologies and religious doctrines are inadequate for entering into a rational dialog with contemporary science. On the other hand, contemporary science—which embraces a materialistic philosophy and is satisfied with models of reality that provide mere empirical accuracy—is unprepared for metaphysical causal principles.

Furthermore, both current religion and science are equally unprepared to view God’s Holy Word as a multi-dimensional and scientific document. But such a view is critical in any lawful attempt to unify science and theology.

God’s Holy Word comes to us from heaven. Few, if any, theologians take into account that if the Holy Word has its origins in the non-physical, non-local and non-temporal realm of heaven, it could not fundamentally consist of worldly qualities but only Divine qualities. Therefore, Sacred Scripture’s various historical and prophetical stories must have originally existed as a dynamical spiritual process consisting of events completely removed and abstracted from any involvement with time and space.

Scientist/theologian Emanuel Swedenborg discovered the profound structural depth of Scripture. Concealed within the literal (worldly) meaning of its stories lies a stratified architecture containing higher levels of meaning.

Some adventurous physicists now believe that reality is stratified and that space consists of discrete realms. It would most certainly raise the eyebrows of even these physicists that Sacred Scripture contains the patterning principle for a multi-dimensional universe and the dynamical nexus (causal link) between an Infinite Creator and a finite creation.

In order for God’s Word to reach humankind, it had to descend by lawful steps from its original pre-space initial condition and find its equivalent (corresponding) form within the constraints of time and space, that is, through finite human language and its worldly meanings. This top-down causal process is an analog of the unfolding events by which the physical world came into being. (All dynamical process proceeds by the same rules.)

Since the human brain and mind consists of the same hierarchical design as the Holy Word and the multi-leveled universe, men and women inherently possess higher cognitive functions that can tap into the rarified knowledge that is incorporated into the deeper layers of Scripture’s sacred architecture.

The Lord God’s Holy Word, when more fully understood, not only embraces salvation, but also physics, neuroscience, complexity theory and cosmology. Imagine that!

How else could Scripture be venerated as God’s revealed wisdom unless it contained overwhelming evidence of God’s INFINITE Wisdom and the Divine Design of creation?

I tackle all these complex issues in my upcoming book “Proving God.” It will show that LOVE is the ultimate science.
