Comfort the heart. Startle the mind.

When the Lord Jesus Christ walked on the earth he did more than comfort the hearts of men and women with the promise of salvation and eternal life. He also came to startle the frontal lobes of His followers.

The Lord did many things to force people to think more deeply about the dynamics of true religion. He spoke only in parables. He performed miracles and bent the laws of physics. He told people to pay their taxes to Caesar. He taught people not to judge others but to self-examine their own hearts. And finally, He allowed Himself to be crucified and humiliated instead of getting off the cross, summoning an army of angels, and proving His Divine power and authority over humanity.

These actions were not only startling to the masses, but also to those closest to Him – His disciples.

Those awaiting the Messiah were literally expecting someone who would free them from Roman rule and oppression. But the problem the Lord needed to rectify went much deeper than that. In fact, the problem facing humanity included phenomena taking place in the spiritual world as well as on earth.

In the same way that the human ear is an organ receptive to sound and the eye receptive to light, the human brain and mind are inwardly arranged to be receptive to influences coming from the spiritual world. This includes influences from both heaven and hell.

Influences from heaven cause the human heart and mind to love the neighbor, while influences from hell create our various negative compulsions and seduce the mind towards ego reasoning.

At the time the Lord came into the world, human free will was threatened because the forces of hell were beginning to dominate over those of heaven. The Lord took on a human body, brain, and genetics in order to receive these two opposing influences in the same way that humans do. This allowed the Lord God Himself to take on all Hell’s influences and fury, and by being victorious, made his Human nature perfectly Divine (the Son) and making it ONE with His Divine essence (the Father).

The Lord’s secret battle with hell and all its temptations allowed evil to be subjugated in a way that restored equilibrium from spiritual influences. Only with such a spiritual equilibrium can one have free will, and only with free will can humanity be saved.

We can be saved from damnation because the Lord was fully victorious and fights for us when we implore His help during times of “inner” conflict that take place within one’s bouts with conscience.

It is precisely the full nature of this cosmic strategy for spiritual combat (as opposed to worldly combat) that the Lord wished to reveal to His disciples. But in order to do this, the Lord had to explain to them that the Sacred Word contained higher levels of meaning, which gave the full details of His battles with the forces of hell.

Only by revealing these hidden meanings could the disciples begin to grasp the process of the Lord’s glorification and His making the Word “flesh.” But the Lord’s job of revealing these things to the finite minds of men and women was not complete – even with His disciples. That is why the Lord promised to return and give His followers more information, BUT saying that “they could not bear these things now.” Humans cannot bear these things because they require our cognitive functions to transcend terrestrial or worldly ideas. The human mind has the potential to make this mental “jump.”

The Second Coming, whereby the full glory of the Lord will be revealed to us, will commence only when our frontal lobes become ready to receive startling new information from heaven concerning the Lord and His Holy Word.

Organized religion is headed for a cosmic shake-up. But even more important, are you ready for seeing new things?
