God’s Love and Truth creates physical time and space

We usually think of the world of visible phenomena as operating on a backdrop of time and space. But time and space and all the physical things that take place within this realm of measurement and duration must have had the same origin. Most physicists will tell you that the Big Bang was not merely an explosive distribution of energy and momentum into space and time but it was the creation of time, space, energy, matter and law itself.

When one considers that the birth of the universe took place in a cosmic womb (singularity) where there was no space, time or law, one is faced with the task of identifying the causal agency and dynamical nature of a non-physical and non-temporal initial condition capable of generating the awesome fruitfulness that we observe in the manifest cosmos.

So even scientists will agree that first causal principles, which constituted the special initial conditions of a prenatal universe, must have their existence and domain in a non-physical realm. Physical time and space was derived from a pregeometrical, ontologically real world. Religion refers to this non-physical reality as the Spiritual world.

The only way we can translate this spiritual reality into scientific language (and a scientifically plausible theory) is to somehow grasp how dynamical process and order can exist totally removed (abstracted) from any involvement with time and space.

Religion tells us that a God of Infinite Wisdom and Love reigns over this pregeometric world. How can we picture kinetic processes and real forms in non-physical states? How can there be difference, measurement and ratio in such a reality?

To put this question into scientific terms we need to come to an answer of what fundamental “stuff” is. The scientific answer is a theological answer—that love is primal substance. Love is the primal creative formative substance from which all forms (and kinetics) are derived. All coherent forms represent God’s Truth—the measurement, ratios, organization and dynamical process coming forth out of Love’s endeavor to find formal existence.

To put this back into strict theological terms not only does God love, God is Love. Love at its essence is being, that is, living, intelligent substance.  If God is everywhere (even before the creation of the world), then Divine Love is non-material space. We intuitively understand this when we speak of a loving and giving person as “big” and a selfish person as being “small.” Love has magnitudes! The magnitudes of love are its measure (the truth of that love).

Truth is non-physical form, measurement (non-physical extension) and ratio. Truth and all its varieties are the first forms love takes in its top-down endeavor to find material existence. This top-down process (spiritual causality) finds stable form and coherent structure in the inert matter and dynamical processes of the physical world. Truth is non-physical time because its coming forth from love is non-temporal duration, which has its physical analog as process and change in the visible phenomenal world.

The “arrow of time” and nature’s incessant drive to find stability, formalism, and coherence in organized dynamical forms consisting of profound mutual relationships (unities) is evidence that the created world gets its marching orders from God’s Love, God’s Truth, and God’s purposeful spiritual activity.

“Physical time and space was derived from a pregeometrical, ontologically real world. Religion refers to this non-physical reality as the Spiritual world.”

I cannot see how this is true. Religion was created, not to explain a “non-physical reality”, but to explain the mysteries of this present physical world.

Love, truth — none of these things have any meaning outside of our know space/time reality. The only time these words would or could mean anything is when they intersect with man in the known physical universe. Otherwise they are and mean nothing.

    Dear ektachrome,

The reason why you cannot see how the topic for this post is true is because you need to change your assumptions about BOTH science and religion.

God’s Holy Word came from Heaven (a non-physical realm), so how did it exist beyond the finite constraints of human language? The answer is that all the stories in Sacred Scripture contain higher SPIRITUAL meanings which are mirrored in corresponding physical qualities.

Here is a quick example. When the Lord opened up the eyes of His disciples in order for them to “understand the scriptures” He did not merely raise their eyelids. Rather, the Lord increased their UNDERSTANDING. “Seeing” or physical sight corresponds to “understanding.” The spirit “sees” through the understanding just as the body “sees” with the physical eyes – they are distinct functions yet they correspond to each other.

All physical events described in Scripture can be translated into their psycho-spiritual equivalent (spiritual meaning). It is the spiritual meaning which exists in the non-physical realm of Heaven.

Love is more than a mere romantic feeling – it is primal substance!!!

I have expanded on these issues in previous posts as well written a book entitled “Proving God” which will be made available to the public in Spring 2010.

Thank you for your sincere response. The topic sparked genuine interest for you. I hope you have a desire to learn more.

    Spiritually yours,

Now you’ve made another assumption — “God’s Word came from heaven.” — there is no evidence for this.

I’m sorry, but I believe it is you who are confusing faith with fact. Having faith will not change reality – in fact, there is plenty of evidence that having faith will skew your perception of reality.

I have a problem with religious gurus trying to use “quasi-science” to “prove” the existence of God or a god.

As for “love” – love is an attitude, not a feeling or, as you put it, “a primal substance.”

Good luck with the book. If you prove God exists, you’ll be the first.

    Dear ektachrome,

    Science is nothing but assumptions!

Scientists are more concerned with models than with truth. Some scientists will even go as far as to say that if ultimate reality embraces a metaphysical principle then reality itself would not be a scientific topic.

The Holy Word itself claims that it is from heaven and existed before the world was created. I simply wrote a short post touching on how we could begin to grasp such a mind-stretching possibility. Ironically, some forward thinking physicists now suspect that time and space is derived from a “pregeometric” realm. They are challenged to find how causal principles and dynamical magnitudes can have real existence beyond spacetime.

I do not speak from traditional “faith” systems. What faith system currently derives its doctrines from higher meaning instead of literal exegesis? That is why I stated above that theological assumptions needed to be changed as well.

The Sacred Word has its authority and inerrancy in its multidimensional architecture (higher levels) – not in physical/archeological evidence. What religion do you know of is making such a faith claim as I have? Traditional religion has changed the word “faith” to mean “belief through ignorance.” But true faith embraces real knowledge – knowledge that can respond to the new physics and point to new and fruitful intellectual directions!

    Spiritually yours,

    Dear readers,

One of the challenges of this blog is addressing new readers who have serious questions about a particular claim. The problem is that many of the claims have been explored from many angles over many posts.

For a reader who stumbles onto this blog for the first time and challenges me puts me in an unenviable position to offer “proofs” to complex issues that require lengthy and exhaustive explanations.

But maybe I can supply a quick example of how we can begin to grasp the seemingly anti-intuitive suggestion that LOVE is primal substance.

If we closely observe our own subjective experience we will notice that our volition, will, and intentions (all of which are derivatives of our loves) are what focuses our attention (our interests) and organizes our thoughts into a worldview or belief system.

In fact, our thoughts and ideas are the first embodied forms of our preferences, feelings and dispositions. This means that volition and affection are the primal (non-material) substance of our intellect. Our feelings and thoughts find further embodiment (formal existence) in the actions of our physical body.

This process is called top-down causation. It starts from the psycho-spiritual realm of values, descends into the more concrete forms of our thoughts, and finally manifests as an outcome of real measurement in the action of the physical body.

The universe follows this same top-down patterning principle. Nature’s incessant drive to self-organize through reciprocal union is a physical analog of LOVE. The more complexity is built into an organized system the more it displays first principles. The human brain is the most complex structure in the universe. It is the only organized system in the cosmos capable of displaying SPIRITUAL LOVE!

I hope my readers will take the time to familiarize themselves with other posts. Otherwise, this blog can have a jarring effect.

    Spiritually yours.

    Very interesting reading.
