Once upon a time, while a very famous anatomical scientist was working in his laboratory, a high-raking military man abruptly entered the room. “We have a top secret assignment for you by order of the President of the United States. This matter needs your immediate attention.”
“What is this all about?” asked the startled scientist.
“We have in our possession an alien spacecraft,” said the military man with a straight face. “We have our best engineers studying the advanced technology and unique propulsion system of this extraterrestrial craft.
“What do you want with me?” asked the wide-eyed scientist.
“We got the alien pilot as well. He has many humanoid features but seems to represent an entirely new human genus. We need you to give us an anatomical assessment, including an analysis of this being’s brain structure and cognitive function. By the way, we have determined that this extraterrestrial being is non-aggressive, knows our language, and is quite willing to communicate with us.
The scientist was then rushed off in an unmarked vehicle to another research facility with armed guards stationed all about. He was then taken to an interior room where the extraterrestrial was sitting.
The scientist sat opposite the extraterrestrial and was amazed at how similar he looked to earthlings. The humanoid was of male sex but what surprised the scientist most was that this creature’s head size was no bigger than the average male’s on earth.
As if reading the scientist’s mind, the extraterrestrial smiled and gently spoke, “You are wondering why I don’t have a bigger head to account for the superior intelligence and technology of my race. We both share fifteen billion nerve cells—what you call neurons. That is plenty enough.”
Just then a lab technician came in with some x-ray pictures and handed them to the scientist. “Here are the x-rays and brain scans of this amazing being. We’d like your opinion of them.”
The scientist looked them over and noticed some internal anatomical differences. The brain scan showed that the alien’s cerebellum was more pronounced while the x-ray of the chest cavity showed an enlarged thymus gland and that the ganglia of the various nerve plexuses were more bunched-together.
“Perhaps I can explain what you’re looking at,” volunteered the space creature. “In humans, the thymus gland shrinks after the age of two. But our thymus gland increases in size as we get older and wiser.”
“I don’t understand,” said the scientist. “What does wisdom have to do with the size of the thymus gland?”
“The thymus gland is a special purifying organ,” answered the extraterrestrial. “But it operates according to the purity of one’s heart, which increases with wisdom and innocence. The thymus gland in the human race starts to shrink as your children begin to lose their innocence.”
“Why are your nerve plexuses more closely integrated?”
“Our race is more spiritually evolved and holistic,” replied the benevolent being.
“You believe in a God?”
“We not only believe in a God, we have access to heavenly secrets. God’s love and divine order flow into the cerebellum. The cerebellum has a full mastery of science and has reign over the involuntary functions of you humans, but its operations are a secret to you because it represents your unconscious mind. In our race, these operations of divine order come into full view of our conscious perception. The propulsion system of our spacecraft is based on God’s divine order and the spiritual causality of universal processes.”
“I can’t wait for our technicians to reverse-engineer your amazing technology,” said the excited scientist.
“Our technology cannot help you.”
“At the start of our conversation I told you that my race shares the same number of neurons as yours. The difference between our cognitive functions is only explainable in terms of your newest theories on brain science. Your best researchers are just now attempting to look at the neuron itself as having deeper levels of structure and that these deeper neural substrates are where the higher cognitive functions of human reasoning and abstract thought occur. Deeper still is the operation of the spiritual mind. Your brain scientists are also looking in the right direction by basing such a multi-level cognitive theory on distinct qualities of emotion or better yet, distinct qualities of love. What a man or woman loves determines on which neural substrate the mind shapes our attention and organizes the data in our memory.
“What do you mean by distinct?” questioned the scientist.
Love can be corporeal, rational or even spiritual. These qualities of love operate on different or discrete neural substrates. Since our spacecraft is designed to operate according to God’s Divine order, its sensors detect the quality of our love and what substrate of our brains that we function on. This cannot be faked. I can assure you that scientists who view reality from a purely materialistic philosophy will never get our technology to work.”
