With Mother’s Day coming perhaps we can take some time to ponder how God might like us to celebrate this wonderful occasion – that is, spiritually.
While this day is set aside to honor our terrestrial mothers, the Lord God would hope that we could raise our minds to giving this special occasion a spiritual twist. You see, from God’s heavenly viewpoint, all humanity is female.
Well, to be more precise, God looks at all those who have the potential for living a true spiritual life as female. That is why in Revelation 21: 2, those who will represent the New Jerusalem (men and women) are described as being “adorned like a bride.”
This seemingly odd biblical statement actually represents the dynamics of a universal principle by which active forces always command passive forces.
In order for humanity to become spiritual, their hearts (will) must become a womb that is receptive to the Lord’s teachings. God’s tenets are spiritual seed – but only if we allow these teachings to become the active principles in our life.
To make oneself an appropriate “womb” for God’s seeds of truth to be implanted into our heart requires passivity. Passivity requires personal humility and giving up our egocentricity, self-love and our self-absorbed life, for higher and nobler spiritual values. Otherwise, if we insist on being the “active and dominating force,” God’s teaching (Divine soul-sperm) will have no proper receptacle to impregnate the human mind and spirit.
So God “fathers” our spiritual re-birth. But we must also “mother” our own individual spiritual re-birth. In other words, humanity was created by God to go beyond reproducing its genes. Humanity can become the means by which God can produce spiritual offspring. This special offspring will become a new generation of angelic beings that will populate God’s heavenly kingdom of mutual love.
Remember, we are also God’s children. So happy Mother’s Day both here and in the hereafter!
