The problem with a materialistic philosophy

While a materialistic ideology challenges the need for a Creator-God or for metaphysical principles to explain the universe, it is finding real difficulties in addressing its own theoretical solutions to foundational issues.

For instance, current science is placing its hope on M-Theory (an 11-dimensional model of String Theory). However, what makes physicists uncomfortable with this theory is that they are using classical forms (membranes, ribbons, globs and donuts) to depict nature on its fundamental level. Scientists instinctively sense that such forms are too conservative for such mind-stretching theories and that they may have reached the “end of the road” with such strategies. They would prefer it if they could have a theory that starts from a quantum mechanical principle.

The problem is that no geometrical or non-classical form is at hand to lend itself to depicting the probabilistic nature of quantum events. In fact, quantum theory is not even a theory of principles. So while most scientists still do not feel they need God, they still need lots of new breakthrough thinking!

Meanwhile, theologians cannot bring anything additional to the table to offer scientists a hand—except one.

His name is Emanuel Swedenborg.

He devised a system of forms, which straddled both classical and non-classical structure (and how one is lawfully derived from the other). Even more spectacularly, Swedenborg’s multileveled model of forms provides causal links between the finite and the Infinite—providing a rational nexus for how God could act in, and find relationship with, the physical world and its laws.

I present these unique (and mostly overlooked) ideas in my new book Proving God. These forms present us with a top-down hierarchical model of spacetime curvatures and provide insightful clues for developing a correct theory of quantum gravity.

Swedenborg paved the way for showing how natural law and phenomena are derived from spiritual law and (non-physical) phenomena! In fact, physical space is ultimately derived from God’s Love and physical time is derived from God’s Wisdom.

Both science and theology will undergo a major shakeup in the 21st Century!

He is a member of the Center for Theology and the Natural Sciences (C.T.N.S.) and the Swedenborg Scientific Association (S.S.A.). Award-winning author of "Sermon From the Compost Pile: Seven Steps Toward Creating An Inner Garden" and "Proving God," which fulfills a continuing vision that God’s fingerprints of love can be found everywhere in the manifest universe. His most recent book, "Swedenborg & Gurdjieff: The Missing Links" is an edgy collection of anti-intuitive essays for personal transformation that challenges and inspires. He has been a student of the ideas of both Emanuel Swedenborg and George I. Gurdjieff for over thirty years. Read more about TheGodGuy, his books and his ideas at
