The New Year is the time to dump our husbands and wives!

I am speaking psycho-spiritually of course.

The New Year is the time most of us make resolutions to change something in our lives. On a deeper level, this symbolizes that we recognize need to change something in either our heart or mind (which is our spirit and inner reality).

According to the extraordinary visionary insights of scientist/theologian, Emanuel Swedenborg, the human heart (will) and human mind (intellect) forms a perfect marriage when we seek spiritual growth. After all, the human heart cannot bond with an intellect that constantly opposes or criticizes it. This leads to disharmony and conflict within our spiritual household.

The human heart or will takes the psycho-spiritual position of “wife” in our inner world, while the intellect takes the position of “husband.” So when we make a resolution for the New Year it is because we sense some disharmony and the need to embrace either a more noble affection (volition) or a nobler concept (belief system).

Spiritually speaking, this amounts to dumping our current “inner” husband or wife. In fact, when we make these kinds of resolutions and succeed in doing them, our worldly partners will probably like us even more.

Happy New Year, everyone!

  1. Sounds interesting. It is the mind-body problem. The two biggest problems we have are: 1. the mind-body problem (lack of unity between them) and 2. the problem between men and women. The first is uniting the mind with God’s will, and then uniting the Body with the mind, all centered on God’s will and heart. There would be no divorce, no immorality, no wars, etc. If we could solve the first, we can solve all problems. True love would be the means of existence. Adam and Eve did not unite their minds and hearts with God, but united with Satan. They fell and began Satan’s lineage, the broods of vipers we have heard about. There probably would not be any original sin or any need for churches, mosques, or synagogues if Adam and Eve had perfected themselves and united with God’s commandment. Pity for us and for God.

    AC 5660:3 [Potts translation]
    >[3] As regards the own that is heavenly, this comes forth from the new will that is given by the Lord, and differs from the man’s own in the fact that they who have it no longer regard themselves in each and all things they do, and in each and all things they learn or teach; but they then have regard to the neighbor, the public, the church, the Lord’s kingdom, and thereby to the Lord Himself. It is the ends of life that are changed. The ends that look to lower things, that is, to self and the world, are removed, and ends that look to higher things are substituted in their place. The ends of life are nothing else than the man’s life itself, for they are his very will and loves, because what a man loves he wills and has for his end. He who is gifted with an own that is heavenly is also in quietude and in peace; for he trusts in the Lord, and believes that nothing of evil will reach him, and knows that concupiscences will not infest him. And besides, they who are in the heavenly own are in freedom itself; for to be led by the Lord is freedom, because they are led in good, by good, to good. From this it is evident that they are in blessedness and happiness, for there is nothing that disturbs them, nothing of the love of self, consequently nothing of enmity, hatred, and revenge; nor is there anything of the love of the world, consequently nothing of fraud, of fear, of unrest.”

“Your conscience is a new will and understanding implanted in you by God. So it is that God is present with you to the degree that you love what is good and true.”
    Arcana Coelestia 4299 Emanuel Swedenborg

“All human actions have one or more of these seven causes: chance, nature, compulsion, habit, reason, passion, and desire.” ~Aristotle~

“All affections have their delights; but such as are the affections,
such are the delights. The affections of evil and falsity also have
their delights; and before a man begins to be regenerated, and to
receive from the Lord the affections of truth and good, these delights
appear to be the only ones; so much so that men believe that no other
delights exist; and consequently that if they were deprived of these,
they would utterly perish.” AC 3938.4

Being demanded of the Pharisees when the kingdom of God should come,
He answered them, and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with
observation; neither shall they say, Lo here! or, Lo there! for
behold, the kingdom of God is within you (Luke 17:20-21).

“Heaven is not located on high, but where the good of
love is, and this resides within a person, wherever he
    or she might be.”
    Arcana Coelestia 8153 by Swedenborg

“To the extent that you detest evil, goodness enters
you from heaven. To the extent that you detest
promiscuity, what is chaste enters; to the extent that
you detest frauds and unlawful gains, sincerity and
justice enter; to the extent that you detest hatred
and revenge, lovingkindness enters; to the extent that
you detest lies and blasphemies, truth enters; and to
the extent that you detest arrogance, humility before
God and love of your neighbor as yourself enter. To
shun evil is to do what is good.”
    Apocalypse Explained 803 Emanuel Swedenborg

leaving God of Self to embrace God of Universe -

“Whatever you love above all else is the purpose which you look to in everything you do. This is in your motivation like the imperceptible current of a river which carries you along even when you are thinking of other things, for it is this which gives you life.”
New Jerusalem and Its Heavenly Doctrine 56 Emanuel Swedenborg

“ All delight, pleasure, happiness, and joy of heart, are of love; and their quality is according to the quality of the love.”
New Jerusalem and Its Heavenly Doctrine 62 Emanuel Swedenborg
    ====================================================

THE WAY OF ONE’S OWN LOVE [continues after death]

After death every one goes the way of his love–he who is in a good
love, to heaven, and he who is in a wicked love, to hell. Nor does he
rest until he is in that society where his ruling love is. What is
wonderful, every one knows the way.

Every one’s state after death is spiritual, which is such that he
cannot be anywhere but in the delight of his own love, which he has
acquired for himself by his life in the natural world. From this it
appears plainly that no one can be let into the delight of heaven who
is in the delight of hell…. This may be still more certainly
concluded from the fact that no one is forbidden after death to ascend
to heaven. The way is shown him, opportunity is given him, and he is
let in. But when one who is in the delight of evil comes into heaven,
and breathes in its delight, he begins to be oppressed, and racked at
heart, and to feel in a swoon, in which he writhes like a snake put
near a fire; and with his face turned away from heaven and toward
hell, he flees headlong, nor does he rest until he is in the society
    of his own love.
    – Divine Providence, nn._ 319, 338

“Anyone can see from reason alone that the Lord who is good itself and
truth itself cannot enter man unless the evils and falsities in him are
removed. For evil is opposed to good, and falsity to truth, and two
opposites cannot mingle, but as one approaches the other, combat arises
which lasts until one gives way to the other; what gives way departs
and the other takes its place. Heaven and hell, or the Lord and the
devil, are in such opposition. Can anyone reasonably think that the
Lord can enter where the devil reigns, or heaven be where hell is? By
the rationality with which every sane person is endowed, who cannot see
that for the Lord to enter, the devil must be cast out, or for heaven
to enter, hell must be removed? This opposition is meant by Abraham’s
words from heaven to the rich man in hell: Between us and you a great
gulf is fixed, so that those who would cross from us to you cannot, nor
those over there cross to us (Lu 16:26).
Evil is itself hell, and good is itself heaven,
or what is the same, evil is itself the devil, and
good itself the Lord. A person in whom evil reigns is a hell in least
form, and one in whom good reigns is a heaven in least form. How, then,
can heaven enter hell when a gulf is fixed between them so great that
there is no crossing from one to the other? It follows that hell must
by all means be removed for the Lord to enter with heaven.”
    DP 100:1-2

“we are to compel ourselves to reject some hellish trait as a sin against the Lord, and after this, the Lord gives us the good that our will needs to direct our thinking and doing in the direction of what is right and good, according to our level of understanding of right and good that we enjoy at the time.”
~ Leon James, commenting on spiritual combat

    sanity…….. is step2 of 12 steps.
What we have is a daily reprieve contingent upon the
maintenance of our spiritual condition. pg.86 of BB.

“…he now has a new will formed by the Lord in the understanding part of
his mind. The Lord then uses this to raise the spiritual man up to
heaven, though evil still remains in the will that is properly his own,
which at this point is miraculously set aside. This is accomplished by
a higher power which withholds him from evil and maintains him in good.”

    Developing a Conscience -
“Your conscience is a new will and understanding implanted in you by God. So it is that God is present with you to the degree that you love what is good and true.”

    Dear Keith,

Thanks for all the valuable Swedenborgian quotes. However, we must keep in mind that “conscience” is an outgrowth of the “remains.” The problem is that the remains are stored by the Lord God in the internal natural mind and most people live in their external natural mind. The two are connected ONLY through self-evaluation, sincerity, temptation and repentance. Otherwise, all the wonderful things you quote above penetrates no deeper than into one’s corporeal memory – where it is hijacked and does little good.

    Spiritually yours,
    TheGodGuy

  4. I don’t seem to have it in my mind that “conscience” is an outgrowth of the “remains.” What is the reference to ‘remains?”

Dear Mr. TheGodGuy, what is your religious background? And currently, what is your current religious affiliation?

As far as I am concerned, I have my personal and unique original mind bestowed to me by my creator. My conscience is connected to my creator via the cosmic consciousness, and my conscience knows all about my personal self. My conscience is connected to my mind through my own personal effort. When my mind is connected to my conscience and to my creator, then I have the task to connect my mind and body, thereby connecting my body to my creator.

This is something that Adam and Eve did not accomplish. God offered His word to them in Gen 1:28, in three parts. The first was for them to become fruitful, which means they should reach individual maturity, similar to any fruit bearing plant in order for it to bear good fruit. Once the plant becomes mature, it can bear good fruit. If Adam and Eve had reached maturity, had developed a good character, as in “one with God,” as in the “Temple of God,” as in “Perfect as their Father in Heaven,” then their mind and body would be united with God. Then they would have been blessed by God in Marriage, a holy marriage, which would have been the beginning of God’s family, the purpose of His creation, His Kingdom of heaven on the Earth, the physical world. They would have filled the earth with sinless children, grand children, a sinless clan, and a society of sinless people, and then a nation of God, and ultimately a world of God and His true love. But they fell. Thus the reason that a Messiah, the one the Jewish people were waiting for, predicting, praying for, fasting for. He was to bring the Kingdom of Heaven on the earth.

That was God’s toil for 4,000 years, to bring the Messiah, who would perfect himself, restore all people, and begin God’s family on the earth. God was miserable during that 4,000 years of preparation time from the Fall of his first human beings to the birth of Jesus. What do we think God thought and felt when he saw his hope and toil go up on smoke as he saw his second Adam die on the cross? Two thousand years later, God and Jesus are both longing for the second coming, when people will believe in and unite with the lord when he comes on earth as a man, and will begin God’s Family on the earth. I am one of the Christians who believes that Christ will come in the flesh, on the earth, not from the sky, or only in my heart. He must come to reveal the Word of God, which Adam and Eve ignored, and which Jesus did not have time to teach us, because we could not bear them at the time, and because did not live to complete his mission.

  5. True Love is the ultimate love that we should all live in our daily lives. The family is the school of Love. Living for the sake of others is the way we should live each day. Science was developed to serve the family of God. God had a plan, a blueprint in the beginning, His Word. He had an ideal of creation. The body represents science, and the mind represents the spirit. We have the goal to unite the spirit and the body under God, and to establish God’s loving family on earth, and then in the Spirit World.

Happy New Year to us all.
