Once upon a time there lived a man and woman in a beautiful garden Paradise. God had provided them with everything, including the Tree of Life whose fruit was purely spiritual and the partaking of it nourished them with inner wisdom and made their lives happy, heavenly and peaceful.
Then one day, Adam, in spite of having all this abundance from God and a lovely angelic wife, began to feel lonely and started thinking that he needed something else to fill this inner longing. He decided that he wanted a more suitable mate and helper. So he began to distance himself from his first wife and spiritual love.
God sensed this change in Adam’s heart and realized Adam wanted someone else to love more than his first wife—himself!
Since Adam would be the father of all future generations God decided to fulfill his misdirected wishes to keep the human species going.
In God’s Great Wisdom, after pondering how he could fulfill Adam’s wish for egoism and self-love rather than loving another from spiritual principles, He came up with a remarkable solution. He put Adam into a trance-like sleep and created a “trophy” wife from one of Adam’s rib bones.
Because Adam was now in a hypnotic state he believed that his rib bone was transformed into a more suitable life-partner. In this hypnotic state Adam got his wish—a new “wife” created from his very own chest, where his heart and lungs operated. So this new wife cleverly represented Adam’s love for himself and his own sagacity.
She was called “Eve.”
However, while under this special sleep-like trance, Adam failed to notice that what he actually fell in love with was a mere figment of his imagination and was no more vivacious than a drab bone. In other words, God helped Adam believe in the beauty of something built up in his faulty reasoning and self-delusion, which—relative to God’s original spiritual gifts of living goodness—was relatively dead like a mere bone.
This, of course, was a temporary measure to allow the progenitor of mankind to live in a fashion corresponding with his newfound comfort level. God would now simply spend the rest of history focusing on waking humankind up and showing them that their perception of reality is just a dream.
That is why God’s Holy Word is full of warnings about “waking up” and to “sleep not.” Unfortunately most religious doctrines have been created by humans under this same, trance-like, mental state. So, the deeper levels and symbolic meanings of God’s Holy Word, and passages about sleep now totally escape them.
