The “debt ceiling” is like an alien parasite from outer space

For me, some of the most frightening horror flicks to ever come out of Hollywood are those where alien invaders grow and mature inside human bodies. I believe that the psychical power of these themes comes from the fact that we instinctively sense and recognize that dreadful things can indeed take hold deep inside us.

The alien creatures depicted in these movies, which have adapted their life cycles to require human hosts, are perfect metaphors for other real dangers that we earthlings are subjected to—like the “dept ceiling.” For instance, in the movies, these parasitic aliens become so perfectly fused with our organic functions that if they are surgically removed, the unfortunate host immediately dies. If we allow the parasite to continue growing we also die—but later. Even more insidious, to keep its hosts from becoming aware of the inevitable dangers of its feeding on us, the alien invaders release chemicals to anesthetize us and give us a false sense of well being.

Let’s look deeper into the analogy and symbolism of our current predicament.

The debt ceiling has indeed grown inside our economic body by anesthetizing the population, while slowly sucking out its lifeblood. In other words, it lives and grows off the dollars of our life’s sweat and labors but only returns just enough back to us to keep us continuously in a somnolent state and in false dependency on its uninterrupted growth.

Furthermore, the debt ceiling behaves like a true alien from outer space because its ultimate goals rely on deception and thus, are alien to those of the average citizen, which it lives off of. Because of this intimate symbiotic parasite/host relationship, if we were to wake up from our stupor and surgically remove the ceiling debt quickly from our lives, we would die immediately. If we allow it to keep growing, we also die—but later.

What do we do?

The only way to successfully remove such a hideous “beast” is to replace it with a powerful life-sustaining force that operates inside of us solely through selfless love.

That life force is God. The dept ceiling is just a more modern, political version, of the “Great Red Dragon” in the Apocalypse.

Any thoughts?

    Any thoughts?

    Sure.

The Law of Permission is a Law of Divine Providence, respectful of people’s freedom of thought and freedom of will. It certainly happens that people abuse their freedom of thought and their freedom of will, thereby causing trouble for themselves or others. But this does not make the Law of Permission a kind of parasite.

Now, the ‘debt ceiling’ is not living inside an ‘economic body’. Rather, it is a kind of ‘epidermis’ for, thus outside, the ‘economic body’. It circumscribes and sets a limit for what can be done economically. If people, individually or collectively, willingly or unwittingly, behave in a manner which violates and/or disrespects it, where do you think the blame lies?

To suggest, by way of implication, that the open air beyond the edge of the cliff is responsible for the demise of one who leaps or falls off the cliff is just plain silly.

No, it is worse than being plain silly.

It is an excellent example of the kind of parasite-like style of thought that people ought to be on guard against, for this style of thought anesthetizes people to rational thought.

    Dear Glenn,

Thanks for your comments. However, human ideas, concepts and solutions, whether good or bad, divinely permitted or not, come from “within.” All our decisions reflect the qualities of our spirit. Therefore, the debt ceiling finds its most advantageous environment within the hearts and minds of men and women. I think you have misinterpreted and misrepresented my analogy.

BTW, rational thought is a step below symbolic thought.

    Spiritually yours,

BTW, rational thought is a step below symbolic thought.

This will always be the case with your preferred type of ‘symbolic’ thought.

  5. thegodguy says:

    Glenn,

Outer things correspond to inner things. That is my preferred type of “symbolic” writing. I think Swedenborg would agree.

  6. Forrest Dristy says:

You make a very good point. I think the metaphor is even better if you regard the parasite
as being not the debt ceiling but the debt itself. This debt has been growing at an ever-increasing
rate for many years now in spite of the numerous ceilings that were supposed to have restrained
it. Let’s hope we have waited too long to come to grips with it.

And thank you for writing your book Proving God. I admire your work.

  7. Forrest Dristy says:

Of course I meant to say: Let’s hope we have NOT waited too long……

  8. thegodguy says:

    Dear Forrest,

Thanks for your comments and thanks for purchasing my new book “Proving God.” The reason why I chose the “debt ceiling” as the parasite is because that is the mechanism of deception by which we permit the debt to stay alive and to grow. Politicians are certainly using the term “debt ceiling” to keep our eye off the ball. But you are right, it is the actual debt that is sucking the life out of us, that is, those who have jobs!

    Spiritually yours,
    TheGodGuy

    Dear Readers,

A good friend has suggested that I remove dzul’s comments. I won’t. We all have our own unique “alien parasites” to deal with. They all “infect” us in different but deadly ways. Exposing them is both necessary and brings extra energy into this blog forum. Heck, some of my favorite blog topics have stomped on the sensitivities and “corns” of a few intelligent Swedenborgian readers! I like to make use of both hemispheres of my brain. Sometimes this requires accepting a little “tarnish.”

    True love to all!
