God’s Love and Cosmic Law

The next great religious movement to take hold of the hearts and minds of men and women on the planet earth will be able to explain its tenets in more scientific, that is, within fully rational and lawful terms.

We urgently need to know on a more scientific basis, why we are here and what part we play in the universal and grand scheme of things. While this notion implies “purposiveness” in creation (a scientific no-no) this new religion will offer a model of reality with explanatory and predictive powers while including person-level experience.

According to both Emanuel Swedenborg and George Gurdjieff, God created the world by sending emanations out from a non-material and Holy Sun. This outward trajectory of God’s creative energy is called “involution” by which time, space, and physical matter came into being through increased constraints and limits.

Both men also claimed that all things return to their first principles. This “backward” direction of returning towards its original source is called “evolution.” Both men also argued that the human race was the primary pivot by which the Lord God’s downward influx was to be turned back upwards again.

In other words, the human race plays a crucial role in completing this transcendental circle. It is only because of this circular plan that everything in the universe can be understood as ordered, oriented and unified.

So, the next great religion will treat “salvation” as a lawful extension of universal, scientific principles!

Scientifically speaking, “evil” is the reversal of order. It is the cosmic duty of the human race to assist God in maintaining order by participating in both involuntary and evolutionary processes.

By rejecting this cosmic duty, humankind thwarts the divine plan, because the involuntary direction alone leads to evil. In other words, if God’s spiritual influx is only allowed a “one-way” trajectory, as it descends downward into the corporeal and worldly human mind, it becomes perverted and turned into the imaginary and false beliefs of deluded and self-centered men and women. Then it passes out as harmful and hurtful actions against others, which is opposite to God’s plan.

In a sense, our cosmic duty to assist God, by going against this downward, “involutionary” trend, means fighting against ourselves! We will all be challenged by the next great religion to adopt a nobler lifestyle, whereby our conscience and choices move us in a trajectory back towards the spiritual origins of the universe.

This upward (and inward) direction demands real effort because it requires going against gravity (like climbing uphill), a gravity that finds its equilibrium in all our terrestrial inclinations—such as selfish goals, mere bodily pleasures and spiritual inertia.

The reason why God does not allow this evolutionary direction to happen naturally with humankind is that the first principles of the universe are based on Spiritual Love. Individuals must make this a personal choice from free will because free will is a derivative of conscious Love. Free will is the only way an intelligent being can truly exercise love and return to the primal source of all created things.
