This can be accomplished by extending the digesting process of this great feast “upwards” to include the highest activity of the mind. The mind can indeed metabolize food. We even call this “food for thought.”
The Thanksgiving celebration certainly offers us food for thought and contemplation.
Our mental operation of digestion starts by saying grace at the table and thanking the Lord for all the blessings bestowed upon us. Under such contemplative metabolism, called prayer, the sharing at the table reaches all the way to heaven!
So, while we enjoy the physical meal and the company of our loved ones on Earth, our souls can further savor this thankfulness from a special spiritual gladness in the worshiping of the Lord God and His gifts of both physical and eternal life. This “higher” joy is our spirit dining on this yearly feast of sharing from a higher plane—where the angels are.
Love, happiness and God’s teachings are real food for the heart, mind and spirit.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
