Once upon a time there lived a guy named Ollie who prided himself on his mental capacities. One day he pulled a copy of the Bible from his bookshelf and thumbed through it. He was confused at how the Bible’s narratives had a powerful effect on his psyche, yet they seemed fantastical and irrational to his educated mind.
Suddenly, an angel appeared in Ollie’s room. Ollie shook his head in disbelief but the beautiful angel began to talk directly to him and grabbed his full attention.
“Hello, Ollie, I have been sent here by the Lord God to show you how crude your mental activity is,” said the glowing celestial creature.
“Crude—what do you mean by crude? I have had an enviable education,” came Ollie’s quick rebuke.
“Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha,” laughed the angel. “Your mind works on the lowest level of its potential capability. I intend to show you what its proper operation can accomplish.”
She moved over to where Ollie was sitting and began to teach him a new way to decipher potent information from the Holy Scriptures. “God’s Holy Word is both a theological and scientific document,” said the angel with all seriousness.
As she went through several chapters of the Bible stories she described for Ollie how each of its words conveyed a higher, psycho-spiritual meaning. “The Seven-Day Creation Story in Genesis actually symbolizes the steps by which God makes humans develop more spiritually,” she explained. “Escaping Egypt in Exodus represents God’s efforts at freeing the human spirit from the oppression and slavery of the human terrestrial worldview and its fallacies.”
Ollie had just begun to absorb what the angel was describing when she mentioned that even above these higher symbolic meanings, the Holy Word contained yet a further level of meaning which referred specifically to the sacred process of God’s personal battle with the forces of hell and ultimate victory of divine Glorification.
“That’s just the theological and doctrinal aspect of God’s Holy Word. There is also a scientific aspect to all this as well,” said the angel.
“Stop—you’re going to make my poor head explode!” said Ollie as he put his hands over his head as if to keep its contents from breaking out.
But the angel continued, as promised, to show Ollie how hopelessly crude his so-called educated mind was. She said, “The three levels of meaning also represent a scientific grasp of Holy Scripture because they convey the top-down causality of the heavenly order of spiritual forces and first causal principles descending into the spacetime arena. This top-down scaffolding of cosmic reality in the pages of the Word also communicates various series of process which follow organic principles and unifies all trajectories towards God’s eternal goal of creating a heavenly society from the human race.”
The angel pointed out how deftly the words of scripture are strung together into a harmonious series of interdependent events that terminated into a holistic living template and comprehensive whole. The angel hinted that these insights would someday help the scientific world to understand the real dynamics of quantum gravity as well as unify science with theology.
Ollie now felt very offended by these insights. “Why didn’t God tell us these things in the first place?”
“God did! But humans eventually preferred to trust their own powers of discernment from self-importance and love of the physical world. Over time the higher, spiritual meanings of Holy Scripture were forgotten in favor of naturalism and literalism,” came the angel’s response.
Seeing that Ollie was still annoyed by all this new information she said, “Why don’t you go and share with others what I just told you? You will quickly find out that no one will believe you.”
The angel then looked deep into Ollie’s eyes and said, “The Second Coming of the Lord and the successful descent of the Holy City, The New Jerusalem will require that these new ideas that I have shared with you enter into the hearts and minds of humanity. Those who stand in the way of these revelations will assume the posture of an indignant Great Red Dragon.”
Hearing all this Ollie felt personally devastated, as if he were experiencing the destruction of some of his strongest held beliefs—especially about himself.
This made the angel smile.
