The neo-Darwinian synthesis for evolution is considered one of the most evidence-rich theories in contemporary science. While this paradigm correctly points out that life evolves to exploit different niches in nature, it leaves out the possibility that intelligent human life can exploit a non-material realm.
By strict definition, science cannot venture into such non-measureable realms beyond the spacetime arena.
But centuries ago, scientist/theologian Emanuel Swedenborg did just that. His work on the psychology of the human mind showed how continued mental development was dependent on evolving towards non-physical functions.
Here is a simple look at Swedenborg’s model of such evolution:
First, the human mind takes in information and data from the outside world through the five senses. This operation internalizes objects and info from the outer world into a psychical plane called the human memory. The memory literally creates an internal field of vision where humans can survey this data field just as human eyesight can survey the phenomena of the natural world.
Swedenborg emphasized that this sensory data is brought in and is seized by some affection or passion in the mind—so the heart (will) is in the cockpit of the human intellect.
The human memory not only serves as an interior field of vision, but from a superior affection, the human mind can find new relationships between distinct items in the memory data. This superior mental operation forms new harmonies between things previously observed and is called creativity.
Next, these creative ideas accumulate to form a new field of vision. From a higher degree of love, new harmonies can be detected out of the noblest ideas of the creative human imagination. These new harmonies create rational judgment and ideas of justice. Swedenborg points out that while the human imagination works with physical ideas and qualities of the earthly plane, true rationality and judgment works with ideas not directly observed or found from mere physical phenomena.
Here, Swedenborg has shown the lawful manner by which the human mind evolves into a new, non-material realm. At each evolutionary step of harmonizing new levels of perception, the human mind contemplates—simultaneously—what had previously entered its sphere successively.
The human mind continues its evolutionary trajectory beyond spacetime constraints when, from a higher passion, it seeks to find new harmonies between things previously judged. This function takes the operation of reasoning into spiritual matters and values, creating a heavenly field of vision.
Swedenborg insisted that the architecture of human heart and mind made it possible for men and women to not only exploit the realm of information, but of God’s spiritual tenets. In other words, human evolution has as its ultimate goal to create a spiritual species of humans called angels.
The growing problems and injustices of the physical world necessitates that the human race evolve into angels.
Darwin should have stayed in Seminary.
