Can one predict the future of a seed?

seed_sproutingAccidents aside, it is self-evident that a seed will eventually produce more seeds.

In between, the seed passes through well-known steps, like root, stem, branches, leaves, flowers, and fruit before becoming new seeds again. This happens over and over again!

Within nature, a seed has both predictive and explanatory powers as to its future trajectory and development. So it falls well within the requirements of a rigorous scientific model for coherent process.

Amazingly, scientist/theologian Emanuel Swedenborg discovered this same patterning principle and series operating in the human intellect and in the narratives of the Bible! This is no small achievement.

If he was right, this means that the steps in each series of successive and simultaneous events always move towards a common equilibrium whereby the beginning is reclaimed in the final step. A seed has all the successive steps of its future fulfillment simultaneously built in.

All process (comprehensive wholes) follows these same rules.

In the human intellect, ideas are just like seeds. When a person accomplishes a goal it is an analog of the original idea. Swedenborg also found a similar order and breakdown of mediating events in the human intellect as are found in the seed’s development.

Swedenborg’s in-depth translation of the Bible also makes mention of its stories representing lawful series of unfolding of events—within the same pattern of unfolding as that of a seed!

This discovery will become the science (and theology) of the future. I am glad that I have captured much of Swedenborg’s unique thinking on these topics in my book Proving God.

I invite you to explore these paradigm-challenging ideas.
