In other words, one does not simply increase one’s kindness and utility in the world and expect to become a better (angelic) person.
Everyone is familiar with the term “re-birth.” But few contemplate on the fact that something has to die first before a new birth can take place.
God’s love and wisdom does the killing. It takes aim at our worldly and self-centered loves (which are contrary to heavenly loves). This is what dies off when we allow the Lord to re-create our inner world.
This same principle is symbolized by the infant (innocence) Cupid—who aims his arrows (piercing truths) directly at our hearts. My new book Cupid and the King of Muck explains this spiritual process in a most entertaining way in the form of an imaginative children’s story. It will be available September 2013.
Meanwhile, happy Fourth of July, America!
