Light brings in most of the information that reaches our brains. Then, something miraculous happens to it once it gets inside us. This light, which brings in information about the physical arena, transforms into a different type of light. This new type of light allows us to revisit, and to see again, the things which successively entered through our physical eyes.
This new eyesight and light creates a whole new vista called the human memory. Some have referred to this new panoramic view as the mind’s eye. What I find truly spectacular about this deeper, inner realm is that it responds immediately to our wishes. Mental objects—the ideas of things we have seen in the physical world—are brought forward according to our subjective desires. In other words, this light shines on what we own.
So this inner kind of light and seeing responds directly to a living demand. In fact, this light becomes even more organic and alive as our mind continues to develop.
For instance, the higher mental function of imagination and ingenuity involves combining the ideas of our memory into new relationships and harmonies. This process creates a whole new mental world where the ideas in it now become more dynamic and obtain increased vivification (more life).
This process of mental abstraction can continue to evolve until its light no longer relies on the outside inputs from worldly objects. This increased sight involves human rationality and a sense of justice, which represent phenomena not directly observed among nature’s processes. Light is not only revealing a new kind of consciousness for us but is itself the activity of one’s level of consciousness.
Next, this sense of rational justice can meet with spiritual influences, which throw additional light on the best principles to adopt and to live by.
In many NDE (near death experiences) individuals describe seeing a metaphysical light that seems to emanate pure intelligence and living love.
(What goes unnoticed in this human process is that Love was involved from the very beginning because we each turn our physical eyesight to the things we value most in the world. Later, light can evolve to show us new values—new things to love.)
While an afterlife for humans is still debated, I just wanted you to know that there is a logical and lawful approach to this question that involves light becoming more alive within us. So, this debate of the beyond can embrace a higher form of seeing and intellect rather than merely blind faith!
